      NEW SERIES!

      By Kara Ellison

(But it's still me 😁...writing clean books for young and old and in between)

April never wanted magic and she doesn’t believe it exists. She never asked to feel others’ souls, either.

But when she’s accepted into a prestigious academy, her secret can’t stay hidden. She can sense when a soul is broken… and heal it—at the cost of her own, despite not knowing how.

The only way to restore herself is by taking from others, a dangerous ability she keeps hidden, even from herself.

When a ruthless enemy begins stealing souls, April’s fragile gift might be the only thing standing between her classmates and eternal ruin. But every sip, every sacrifice, brings her closer to shattering.

Her power could save them all… or destroy her.

A cursed grimoire. A dying experiment. A stolen child.

When three-month-old April is kidnapped, she isn’t taken for ransom.

She’s chosen for a dangerous experiment.

A magical tome is home to shattered souls that clamor for escape from its pages—and April is the vessel. The book has its own desires, but the doctor wielding its power has an agenda of her own.

In this prequel to the Tattered Soul Series (Souls and Shadows is Book One), uncover the hidden origins of April’s gift and the terrible price of forbidden knowledge.

If you love magical academies, hidden powers, and secrets that whisper long after the last page, you’ll be captivated by Whispers and Wisps

      Sci Fi recommendations

Books I Recommend (in no particular order)

(Science Fiction with Humor, Heart & Adventure)

I love science fiction that balances big ideas with great characters, sharp humor, and page-turning adventure. These are series I genuinely recommend to readers who enjoy action, found family, and stories that don’t forget to have fun along the way.

Interesting factoid: I love to read well-written military sci fi but—never having been in the military myself—I don’t write that. I write space opera and action/adventure, instead, and have to look up if a captain is higher in rank than a colonel if I use such references in my own books.

          Action, Adventure & Laugh-Out-Loud Sci-Fi

              The Backyard Spaceship series

              by J. N. Chaney & Terry Maggert

Funny, fast-paced, and packed with action. This series is a perfect example of sci-fi that doesn’t take itself too seriously while still delivering solid storytelling, inventive tech, and nonstop adventure. If you like smart humor mixed with space chaos, this one’s a blast.

              Shapeshifters, Secrets & Space Trouble

                  The Universal Shapeshifter Series

                  by K. E. Brungardt

Yes, I’m recommending my own series. It’s character-driven sci-fi with shapeshifting, alien intrigue, biotech, found family, and escalating stakes. If you enjoy space opera with heart, humor, and characters who grow under pressure, this series was written for you. (Besides, who can resist a character who has talkative, snarky hair?)

                  Strong Stories & Great Characters

Dumb Luck and Dead Heroes series

                      by Skylar Ramirez

Well written, engaging, and driven by strong storylines. This series stands out for its character work and narrative depth while still delivering satisfying sci-fi action. A great choice if you like substance alongside adventure.

                      More Recommendations Coming Soon

I’m always discovering new science fiction worth sharing. This page will grow as I add more favorites, rereads, and standout series that deserve a place on the shelf.

                      A quick note

These recommendations reflect my personal taste and the kinds of stories I love to read and write. I’m an eclectic reader, by the way, so I also enjoy well written horse stories (because, well, they’re horses!), cozy mysteries, detective books (think Michael Connolly and Harry Bosch series), and the occasional romance (yes, I require a happily-ever-after in them).

If anyone asks, Genevieve McKay writes terrific horse books that I really enjoy (because, yeah, I was born horse crazy and loved the Black Stallion series, My Friend Flicka series, and any other horse story I could get my hands on, such as those by Marguerite Henry.)
